While my car was in queue to be looked at and dismissed, I got to (via the magic of poor planning) wander around Annandale for two hours. If you’re ever there, check out Kruger’s Antiques, across from Super K-Mart. It’s like some kind of beautiful civilization graveyard, where shelves of Nancy Drews half-collapse against each other, Brownie cameras are sold next to Minoltas, and Jackie O is on the cover of Life. I have to go back for apartment art, at some point.

MUSIC STUFF:
Sambassadeur has put out a new single, and I love it. Ben Houge’s soundtrack to Arcanum is all online for free. Little Brother is fantastic on headphones (and Minstrel Show has a hell of an album cover). Wolf Parade’s “It’s A Curse” is my new favorite song. The new Kool Keith just might be a must-buy album, what I’ve heard so far is certainly exciting. Percy Faith’s “Swedish Rhapsody” (heard recently in the cleaning scene of Matchstick Men) is great, but I’m still trying to figure out the name of the alone-in-the-apartment Merv Griffin-esque horn romp. Oh, and: Black Moth Super Rainbow is this year’s band to watch. You heard it here first.
Expect a big mix with a big theme about a big event, sometime in the next week.

I just bought this. Shame on me.

New job has been a little scary, but it’s been fun being forced to learn some code. Something about coding is vaguely more satisfying than design (at least, web design). For the first project, I ended up a) finding tons of new CSS tricks b) learning browser hacks that change styles for IE c) finding a javascript that switches styles onClick d) finding out about CSS’s (extremely simple) scrollbar controls. Now I just need to learn a little more PHP and Wordpress, but right now, I’m going to watch Netflix movies and do absolutely nothing else.
