Things I want to do/am working on:

Screensaver.

Description: Make four-monitor screensaver out of Scrabble tiles atop the items that start with their letter.
Why? The “choose a folder” screensaver is a lot of fun on four monitors. A LOT OF FUN. And with big photos of letters, I can sit around and watch for random words to form.
Progress: I have 25 photos circulating randomly on four screens. I’d like a lot more, especially in the vowel area.
Next step: Flesh out my list of things to photograph, have a night of photographing, begin carrying tiles and camera with me.

Redesign this blog.

Description: Now that I’ve learned enough CSS, PHP, and Javascript to hold me over for a while, I feel up to the task of taking on Wordpress and making this blog totally good.
Why? Why not? I like making stuff. Also, I like blogging, and a redesign would allow me to make a good 50 styles for various paragaph, pullquote, music download, and ‘favorite comment’ purposes. I like to take what I know and do the most with it; and what I know with CSS and Wordpress can make some weird, weird things.
Progress: I’ve begun an expanding list of ideas (Make the background 5000px wide, like LFS? Have one of those silly black bottom-category panels?) that will eventually move into a structure stage.
Next step: I want to see if Django is easy enough to learn; if it is, I’ll forget about Wordpress and switch platforms. So, I guess I should install Django and start poking around. Done. Next step should be building a few models.

Portfolio Update.

Description: My portfolio was designed to be modular, something I can put pieces into and out of as I see fit, without making the ‘completeness’ of the site seem compromised.
Why? While I have a job, I need to increase my freelance base. Also, I love clicking around my portfolio site.
Progress: None.
Next step: I need to decide if the next step is a content rewrite, better work layouts (different backgrounds for local pages), an honest-to-God awesome landing page instead of the “about me” page defaulting as a lander, or putting the site into a database (it’s currently so many nested includes that you’d get sick just looking at it). The last one seems unneccessary, seeing as how I edit it so infrequently.

Wordpress Plugin.

Description: A boy can dream, right? A month ago, I’d never opened a PHP file, never rewritten Javascript, and never used the multi-wrapper method (still debating if this is good or not) for CSS design…..but yeah, I’d like to make a Wordpress plugin that allows users to crop photos live on the site, like you can on OKcupid.
Why? For the majority of Silas Partners’ potential clients, this would be a great way to handle photos. Upload, crop, save in three sizes. I’ve had a few freelance projects where this could’ve been a boon, too; it’s a lot better than telling people to download The GIMP.
Progess: *coughs nervously*
Next step: Look over how plugins are made, see if there’s anything similar to steal from.

iStock Illustration Phase.

Description: As someone who spends and makes a considerable amount on iStock each month, I have a pretty good idea of what people are looking for in vector images. I should get illustratin’.
Why? I need to practice illustration, and I need to get more iStock dollars. Precious iStock dollars.
Progess: Started an iStock ‘ideas’ file, working on selecting the best one for these purposes.
Next step: Choose a few, do some sketches.
