I just got ten CDs in the mail, but I’m still stuck on the first track of the first disc. The Thermals’ “Here’s Your Future” is unstoppable; listen here.

  1. 1 Eb 1-30-2007

Ooh! Ooh! What else you get?

  2. 2 Doug Nelson 1-30-2007

Boris, Joanna Newsom, Ghostface Killah, Hot Chip, Liars, TV on the Radio, and The Knife. Wait, that’s not ten. That’s eight. Crap.

  3. 3 Eb 1-31-2007

I just received The Thermals, Camera Obscura and Jens Lekman from CDuniverse.com (cheapy cheapy!). All the records I need are imports: the Fratellis, Lily Allen and the Klaxons. Stupid ocean.

  4. 4 Jane 2-4-2007

You have a high calibre of reader Doug, very pleased to see you’re having trouble with all those imports you’re after…

When you say Liars, Drum’s Not Dead? Oh man, get that on the speakers. And put up a do not disturb sign for 47 minutes and 23 seconds, minimum. Me: The Shins, Grant Green (working that jazz guitar), TV on the Radio (SPECTACULAR), Loney, Dear (ahhh), The Good, The Bad & The Queen (yawn) and (shhh) Neon Bible. Lots of review stuff on my last.fm. Also on the prowl for the new Bright Eyes EP.

Another thing - where DO you dig out stuff like Really Now? I love that song!

  5. 5 Doug Nelson 2-4-2007

My short attention span and shuffled-play style of listening have left me unimpressed with Drum’s Not Dead. But I’ll try it all in a row this afternoon.

The Shins: Truly disappointing. It’s not a bad album, but it’s not a Shins album (same feeling for the new Clap Your Hands). Sigh.

I know not The Good The Bad and Neon Bible. I will look this up.

“Oh Really Now” was courtesy of the now-defunct music blog Spoilt Victorian Child. Check out my bloglines MP3 list (over on the right nav) for more.

Liars is a major grower and just major in every way but not in isolation - I hate the phrase but it’s a concept album I guess. And you are massively rewarded at the end, I mean massively. Shins I thought was quite nice but I’m not familiar with their earlier stuff so that’s exciting to hear. Have gone off CYHSY, can’t take his voice anymore. Always liked Wolf Parade more anyway, they’re in the same file in my head for some reason. DUDE - NEON BIBLE - THE ARCADE FIRE’s follow up to Funeral. The biggest album of the year? At least from an anticipation point of view… I have a few reservations, but love it. The Good, The Bad etc. are Damon Albarn’s new thing. Disappointing. All reviewed in last.fm where I am spending FAR too much time lately.

Right, back to this GD functional specification I’m trying to finish (cough, start).

… Neon Bible is only released in March but there are bits and pieces floating around now that they’re touring and you can stream Black Mirror from www.neonbible.com.
