I know I’ve spoken poorly about it, but I think CNN’s redesign is actually quite nice. Andy Rutledge has an interesting breakdown of the measured simplicity that goes into a design like this.

    Yeah, I agree with you on the search — defaulting to “web” rather than “cnn.com” is pretty lame. While I realize that CNN probably gets a kickback from Google for all Web searches made from their site, who really goes to cnn.com to search the Web?

    It seems like they should be able to work a better deal, like, “We’ll search the CNN site but provide google ads and links away from CNN content.” It seems like it would be just as beneficial to Google. Meh.

    I’m surprised that CNN would be okay with me deciding “I want to read about Mitt Romney,” searching “Romney,” and getting the NY Times, MSNBC, and Washington Monthly as my top news-related finds.
